Road Cuts are a Tourist Attraction
Sep 27 2008, 11:26 PM EDT
I made a fast trip to Hot Springs Arkansas this last weekend. My niece was having open heart surgery. Every thing went well and she is recovering fine. Billie and I could not resist a new road cut near Silver, Arkansas on HWY 70 west of Hot Springs. The highway department is building a new bridge at Lake Ouachita. It was a great find, We picked up a great deal of Rhomboid shaped calcite crystals with some nice Quartz crystals embedded in the calcite. We were just a few mile from Mt Ida which is the quartz crystal capital of the US. If you have never been there and you are traveling through the state it is a must stop. There are a number of fee mines in the area and I know a few spots not on the fee circuit. Massive gem quality crystals have come from this area. If there are some mid west folks on the WIKI maybe we could explore for treasures? Tom you are coming this way soon?Bill Do you find this valuable?

That is always a scary thing messing with the heart and all. Sounds like you made some nice finds. Sometimes roadcuts are very good to rock hounds. lol I have gotten some material from the Arrowhead mine in years past and got some nice quartz crystals. You live in an excellent rockin' area for sure. It would be nice to see some others in different parts of the country getting together to go rockin'. It is a blast to meet the people we type with all the time and even finf some rocks at the same time. Hopefully something will work out. Keep on rockin'! Paul Do you find this valuable? |

Glad to hear your niece is doing well. My folks volunteer for West MI Organ Transplant; having gotten into it after my step dad had heart valve transplant about 15 yrs ago. Anyone out there, sign the papers to be a donor.I live in the Midwest; maybe could come down next summer. I would love to hunt with you and Billie. I have a grandson who lives in western TN anyway. Those are some nice crystal pictures, they make what I have collected look kind of small. No, real small. :) Pam Do you find this valuable? |

Hi Bill,I just started my new job, so I have to wait a about 6 months before I can take some vacation time. I know its is a long way out, but I am planning to head back to IN summer of 09. While I am there I am planning a trip down to Del Hollow Lake (I think that's how it is spelled). The lake is between Kentucky and Tennessee. I explored a cave there once before I moved here to AZ. It was before I new about fluorescent and phosphorescent crystals. I remember that every time we turned our light off we could see little glowing lights. I can't wait to get in that cave with my U.V. Lamp!!! Maybe if we drive we could stop in Arkansas and find some crystal. My wife likes to fly :( Maybe when My father-in law goes back to IN this spring to bring all of his belonging to AZ I could then. I'm not sure. Tom(AZrhound) Do you find this valuable? |
