cdonahue07Hi welcome to our wiki, If you look at the North Carolina page there is a lot of info there. The page is in the National Directory. Just click on National Directory on the left under Site pages. I hope this helps and I hope you have a great trip. Tom(AZrhound) Do you find this valuable? |

"thanks! i looked on there but the link for a gold information outside website didn't work, but it did help a lot for other gems we're going to be looking for!"I fixed the link. The NC Geological Survey has booklets for sale for a small fee on Gold Prospecting in NC (check out the link) One of best areas in North Carolina is Uwharrie Mountains on the Piedmont Plateau. Montgomery County is a well know gold prospecting county. North Carolina has produced more gold than any state in the east. It was the major source of gold until the California gold rush. Another good link is http://www.goldmaps.com/east/north_carolina_gold.htm. Bill Do you find this valuable? |

I stopped Gold Mine Creek east of Troy and had fun collecting Quartz. I would have given $50 bucks for a pan. There is a mojar lake resort area at the Uwharrie Mountains. Lot's of places to stay. Bill 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

we are planning on making a trip over there later this year when it warms up, the place I have picked to check out is www.veinmountaingoldcamp.com they had good rates and camping on sight, they have both gold and gems and fishing. cant remember when they are open though. From what I've checked out on line the Uwharrie national forest is open in the whole area for gold panning (national forest) but you might want to check with the local rangers station. We've been to the broud river area and found small specks of gold but we was there just for a day trip from ky. Hope that helps. Have a nice trip and give us a report.

We do a lot of weekend prospecting and have been to Spruce Pines. Our favorite place to go is Bearfoot Gold in Robbins. It is a lovely place, with primitive camping, dredging and panning on the creek and superbly knowledgeable hosts. They have a fantastic website - http://bearfootgold.com/. They schedule family outings, are very kid friendly and offer day passes. This is a private site so you have to make reservations and pay for the priveleges. There is even the chance of one of the famous cookout/potlucks! We have come home with nice nuggets and recovered satisfying amounts of fine gold. It is privately owned, again, so be prepared to observe the reasonable rules and guidelines. Not to be missed! Mention where you heard about their place and check out their website and forum! The Mason Mine is open year round. Franklin is west of Charlotte. There is a great page on North Carolina on the WIK that has links to several mines in the National Directory.. Also certain members are regulars to the mines in the area. I have been to Franklin on numerous occasions and it is one of my favorite spots on earth. The is one thread on NC with over a hundred posts. Hope you have a great time.Bill Do you find this valuable? |

Dang!! Franklin is 3 & a half hours from where we are staying! We're going for a family visit & only have a day that we wont have our toddler with us so we wont be able to go there. :( SOOOO unfortunate!! I think we are going to go to Hiddenite or Lucky Strike. Does anyone know of any ruby places that are like a maximum of an hour & a half from Charlotte??

sorry everybody I forgot to mention near Bearfoot Gold there is a nice campground with r.v. hookups in Carthage NC and a family friendly motel in Biscoe. Both only about 15 minutes from Bearfoot.
