Is anyone going to the huge shows in Tucson or Quartzite AZ? If you have never been, it is an unbelievable experience.

Hi Bill,
I am planning on going to Tucson this year. I move to AZ on Jan 1 of 2007. I didn't have the Rockhound bug yet. So I didn't go to the 2007 show. I started getting interested in rockhounding about march of 2007. I lost my job in Nov. of 2007. So I was only focusing on getting a new job and before I new it the 2008 show had come and gone. I was very upset when I finally realized it. So this year I am not going to miss it. I am also going to a smaller show in Mesa, AZ this weekend. The show starts on the 9th and goes to the 11th. Do you have any more info on the Quartzite show. That is not too far from where I live either.

patagonianstar if you are still planning on being there maybe I'll see you there.
If anyone else from this wiki is going let me know maybe we could meet.

Quartzite is the less expensive of the two shows.. It is more like a giant rockhound tail gate party. Some people sell out of their trunks others set up tables. 2,000 vendors of rocks, gems, minerals, fossils and everything else imaginable create one of the world's largest open air flea markets . Eight major gem and mineral shows as well as vendors of raw and handcrafted merchandise peddle their wares in the first two months of each year. It is a great place to move a large amount of material if you have it.The following web site has show dates.

The Tuscon show is unbelievable. Billie and I go to buy supplies. There are dozens of shows some you need a wholesale tax number from your state to get in but most are open to everyone. Billiie has a tax number. If you go be sure to look up Ricardo & Claudia Birnie our Argentina WIKI friends. They are setting up at Tucson.I also some good prospecting sites around Tucson. Just let me know.

Quartzite also has numerous field trips you can go on around the area. We are thinking about Tuscon. Don't stay in Tuscon; the motels rates skyrocket. The best way to go is get a couple or more to split the cost of a house on one of the golf resorts around Tuscon. Our last trip we stayed in a three bedroom new home at Green Valley resort and split $600 for the week or $50 an night for a couple. We could also have our own leisurely breakfast at home. Maybe grill steaks at night and save a lot and enjoy it more. The resort had an 18 hole golf course and a club house with a gym and pool. We were more interested in rocks than golf. Around Tuscon is some to the largest copper mines in the country. Associated minerals include malachite, azurite, turquoise, bornite and other copper minerals. Do you find this valuable?
