Yes fairburn agates are some of the truly most beautiful stones ever found on this earth. I would love to see an episode on them. I would love even more to be able to get out and hunt some for myself.

Hey Tall Tom Sr. I agree. That would be a great hunt for Kirsten. I'll be out there hunting in late spring. Not much to find here in Aberdeen. The gravel
pits produce an occasional nice agate.

Hey Tall Tom Sr. Where are you from? Sounds like you could be from the frozen north like me. Can't wait for all of Al Gores global warming to go away.
I wish he'd come and shovel it out of my driveway. Do you know of any rock hounds in north eastern S.D.? It's lonely up here. All of the neighbors think
I'm nuts for collecting rocks. I've been collecting for 50 odd years, and would sure like to find a few like minded people in my area.

I wish I knew people in South Dakota. South Dakota is one of my favorite states I've ever visited in the USA. I still remember entering SD coming from St Louis, it was like another world. More wildlife then I have ever seen in any other state in the US. Not to mention all the large mammal road kill. The SD fishing is amazing as well. There are some seriously huge fresh water fish in South Dakota, and some very predatory fish as well. I loved Custard State Park, and Mount Rushmore as well:)

Thanks,

Aaron

Hey retiredoldfogee, I'm one of those too. Been retired for about 7 years now. I moved to Aberdeen, S.D. back in 96. The large mammal road kill is ok,
as long as your car didn't kill it. Plays hell with the body work. The Walleye is great eatin, as is the venison. Here in the north east the rockhounding
leaves a lot to be desired though. Come back and see more of the state when you can. South Dakota is a lot more than just the Black Hills, and the
road kill.

Right near the top of my favorite state. Rockhounding par excellence. Beautiful country, some of the friendliest people I have ever meet. Five grand Parks clustered together. Three of them are National. Fairburn Agate one of the best. Ready to go Tom.

Hey Tall Tom, When do you plan to go to Bear Butte? Maybe I'll see you there. Aberdeen, Washington sounds great. Not like Aberdeen, S.D.
Nothing here to search in but gravel pits. I did most of my rockhounding in the deserts of Southern California, before moving back to my wifes
home state. I moved over a ton of good quality cutting material back with me, to keep me busy. Rock on.

Thanks for the invitation we will have to take up up on it. My favorite spots are Two Hearts Ranch at Red Shirt, North of Crawford, and Tee Pee Canyon. I known you probably have some honey holes.

Why not, you can come too right Tom. Maybe we could go with you to the Tow Hearts Ranch, as I haven't been there. Tee Pee Canyon is one tough place to try and find much these days. Honey holes come and go with me, as I try to get out every week on an average all year long. The wife and I am going into a area on Pvt. Land tomorrow. Temp is going to be in the 50s here. Will try and list a pix for you all. dbsagates.com

Sounds great. Two Hearts is on the Cheyenne River 19 miles from Fairborn SD. I was at Tee Pee canyon after a big fire roared through the canyon. The agate was exposed along the Ridge and not much digging was required. I took the first road on the right just past Jewel Cave National Park. The ranger station was about 3/4 mile from the road. Most people turn left to the dig site but agate follows that ridge. I made Tom a bear out of Tee Pee canyon. Do you find this valuable?

I vote yes, but keep in mind Top Grade Good size Fairburns are truly hard to come by. It is not like other well known sites where you can count on a sack full of very nice agates.
