Your user name indicates you are from Hot Springs. Is that Hot Springs, AR? I might know you since I used to live there. Do you find this valuable?

Glad to see you online. Have you read about the earthquakes just east of Hot Springs at Magnet Cove and some wells turning hot in Sleepy Hollow.

Yes, in fact there is some interesting reading about the area from 1902 if you do a search on Google Books for the following: Report of an Analysis of the Waters of the Hot Springs on the Hot Springs ... By United States Dept. of the Interior, John Kerfoot Haywood, Walter.

Seems that November of this past year was an active month but it only made the local television newscast for a day or two. I believe they are doing additional studies on the area now. There is a December 2008 newsletter published the Central Arkansas Gem, Mineral and Geology Society that also mentions the Magnet Cove area, you can find it here: http://www.centralarrockhound.org/docs/dec08DL.pdf

Thanks, I have been catching some of the articles. The Cove is a five square mile formation of volcanic rocks. It is an anomaly with 42 different minerals found there. A state geologist said there could be magma coming into the area causing the quakes. Have you ever prospected in the cove?

Yes you are correct. These will be called the Hot Springs diamonds, because they are found in Hot Springs, North Carolina.

Herkimers are quartz crystals. Are the NC diamonds quartz crystals and how large are they?

Yes they are quartz crystals. The state geologist said it was the hardest mineral he had ever crushed. He determined it to be quartz with a chemical test. I did a heat test. Not only could I not burn them, but I couldn't make them hot either. As you probably know, diamonds will burn because they are 100% carbon. Most are about 1/4 inch long, with beautiful prisms. Thanks, Barry

I saw the beautiful forest picture you took at Lucas Creek. I thought I saw a strange large hairy manlike creature in the woods. Am I mistaken or was it a BIG FOOT.?
