"tip" of Lucas monsters.

You two sure had an adventure finding and gathering those two large agates,,lol. Congratulations on the find and the report. Great job on both. too bad the Rock hounding "tip" for this trip was an anatomical one,,lol. Hope your hand is doing better. That area is getting closer to geving up that hundred pounder. Wonder who will break the mark. Last year we had an agate contest among someof us here on the wiki. Perhaps this year we could make it "the lunker hundred contest" to see who breaks the mark.

The finger seems to be recovering well. When the doctor took the bandage off the other day, I got a close look at the stub and the end looks alot like a little chunk of seam agate. But the doctor thinks it will close over as it heals and make something like a normal fingertip, though probably without a nail. Do you find this valuable?

I can't wait to see this cleaned up, you definitely earned that sucker by hauling her out of there. I say whoever had the guts to go in that far and manage to be creative enough to haul a big hunk o rock out, more power to ya!!

Please post more pics after the acid bath..

Them Lucas Lunkers can hide,, but they can't run,,LOL

Man that would take a huge tumbler to run them size of agates. We would be talking mills now. :-o

Tom I ain't coming over to agate hunt with you. Man you have attack agates, I am beat up enough! lol

We best start being quiet about all these agates and Weyerhouser may start charging a price per pound for these things. Heck it may be more profitable than logging!

Amazing finds and report. What a kick, man what work too. Heal fast and take care of that finger.

Congratulations on your find. I am sorry to hear about the finger. You did a great job creating the 96 pound agate page. Nice work. I looked at the agate. I do not believe it is a yard rock at all on the contrary it looks like a solid piece with colors that might extends throughout. The colors are bright and rich and it looks very solid. It is not the same nodular formations that has been posted. Therefore it formed under different conditions. Since it is from a seam there is a layer of it somewhere up the branch. If you find the seam there might be thousands of pounds of this material. I would cut a portion of the agate to see what you have. It will take a big saw. Is it thicker than 12"? Where that piece is there should be a lot more. If you return I would break a smaller piece to confirm what you have.

MY thoughts to Bill
I would not call that a "yard rock". I looked at it and saww about eighty pounds of carving and jewelery pieces in it,,lol That bold yellow and orange and red pattern on the outside suggested secrets inside. Could be wrong but definately more than a "yard rock". Glad you said it first,,lol

I agree. It is not a yard rock. It looks very promising. I sure would like to have x-ray vision and see what secretes are inside. I know there are those who say - leave it alone - it is worth more as a museum piece. First of all you have to find a museum wanting to pay your for it. Museum piece to me means GREAT BIG ROCK. Secondly, there is no way to know for sure if it really quality material unless it is cut. I saw a Fairburn agate about the size of a big grapefruit with a $13000 dollar piece tag on it.
It was a great agate but to be honest I would have polished a dome on the rock to get the true colors.

Hi Tom,

Will the contest only encompass Lucas Agates? Tehe. I think quality of the Agate and type of Agate may be important judging factors;) Tehe.

Thanks,

Aaron

Silicanine about your finger tip... I once hammered my finger tip while remodeling my house, and holding a nail I hammered my fingertip. Needless to say it literally turned my finger into a pancake like in the cartoons. My finger tip was literally hammered off, except the pancake of mush hanging by some skin. I freaked out, thinking my finger tip is gone, and now I am going to have a finger stump. I called my Dad who was a framer by trade, and asked him for a ride to the ER, and he told me not to bother, and there was nothing they could do except send you a huge bill. I went anyways because I did not have a tetanus shot and I had hammered on a rusty nail with a rusty hammer head. Turned out he was right there was nothing they could do except bandage it. Yes, my finger tip did grow back over the stub, including my fingernail which did have a funky indentation for some time after it grew back, but it did eventually normalize. Coming from a construction family, I can say from watching others by experience, that finger tips grow back. It is gruesome though, and can be a little scary.

Get well soon, and congratulations on your find.

Sincerely,

Aaron

It looked solid to me. And a nice red all along one side nice and deep.

Most of these monsters do have a lot of fractures. They picked up a lot of them when the forest was first logged many moons ago.

This one looked much more solid that is typical.

The contest is open to any collecting area. Last year we started it about April and ran it till I think June. We had several catgories,
Most Unique shape.
Best Color.
Most interesting internal characteristics.
Largest.
and so forth. It was alot of fun and we had a great time harrasing each other through it all. The bonus was alot of great agates got posted so everyone on the wiki got the benefit of seeing stones from all over.

I hve spudded a few digits along the waay and all of them healed up whole. It was a bit painfull during the process and it seemed that I was constantly bumping them on something but they healed. so chances are your will heal up good and you will not even think about it after a couple of months,,till you do it again,,lol

Yeah Andy us Easteners slipped last year. You had it for quite a while with the titanic agate, but man, them western agates went and jumped in to Toms and Jakes hands and took it all. Andy you must prevail this year! The Easterners need a piece of the action if you will. Get to huntin'!!! :-)
