My first trip to Oregon

I am trying to set up a trip for myself and my girlfriends to visit Oregon to dig for sun stones and fire opals. Does anyone know where these mines are and how far away from each other they are. We would like to be able to rent a camper when we get there. Any suggestions of where to rent. What is the best time of year to visit etc. I await a response. Thank you in advance. Do you find this valuable?

Contact Paul and he can share alot of info with you. He was down there last summer and collected a good amount of nice stuff from the mines. He is ( pvjjf) and has the faceted stones as his picture. Click on his picture then click message and he will respond, I can vouch for that.

Hi cj, sorry for the dely in posting. Just been real busy the last couple of days. As Tom mentioned my family and I went to the Spectrum mine last summer and had a great time.

There isn't many places to stay near the Spectrum Mine. There is camping at the mine itself, tipi's I think, or the BLM recreation site a couple of miles away. The BLM site does have an improved primative outhouse and that is about it I believe. The nearlest town with motels would be Lakeview which is a bit of a drive to the Spectrum and but the Juniper Ridge fire opal mine is located about half way between Klamath Falls and Lakeview. You may be able to rent a camper at Klamath Falls which is the nearest large city in the area. I guess there may be something in Lakeview as well. I just have never checked on anything like that.

We went in August. I would recommend a spring or fall trip. It is the high desert and there isn't any shade anywhere. We were lucky that is wasn't in the 100's and that there was a slight breeze. Take lots of water, it is dry.

We had a great time and the people at the mine were very friendly and helpful. One thing when driving in when it say slow go slow, the road is very rough. It is a good road graveled and all, just very washboarded. If that a word?? lol
