"I am starting metal detecting but i don't know where to find good spots and my detecter is really old where can i find a great cheap metal detector"That is a very good question. You may try local pawn shops, watch Craig's list, eBay, estate and garage sales to mention a few. Just got to be lucky and at the right place at the right time. I see you posts below about sea glass. Sure there will be sea glass - well lake glass in the shores of the big lakes. But there needs to be a lot of wave action to produce the real good looking rounded, frosted glass. For places to rockhound and explore in MI, on the left side menu there is the national directory. There you can pick the state you are interested in and see what dig or hunting sites are listed. Of course if you know any yourself, please feel free to add them as well. Here is the list to the national directory, MI to make it a little easier for you. http://cash-and-treasures-wiki.travelchannel.com/page/Michigan I see you are new to the wiki, welcome! I hope you enjoy it as much as the rest of us rocker's and treasure hunters do. Hope this helps. :-) Paul Do you find this valuable? |

I don't metal detect, but my dad plays at it occasionally. Usually it's in my yard to find a lost earring. (note to self; don't wear the real stuff when doing yardwork)I work for the DNR in MI during summers and if you go to their state park websites there are maps where detecting is allowed. Public beaches are generally allowed, check the indivual beach authorities to be sure collecting is allowed. Other than that, I have seen small treasures from along remote rail road tracks (the more remote you go, the less folks have ventured there). Where there is new construction in older, downtown type areas, people have found things. I see many with detectors in the UP looking for coper, silver and half-breeds. I plan to try that myself next summer. Where are you located? Pam 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

"I am starting metal detecting but i don't know where to find good spots and my detecter is really old where can i find a great cheap metal detector"Check the various metal detector dealers. Many of them take perfectly good metal detectors in trade on newer models. You should be able to get a good used detector through one of them. My own latest detector is a Minelab X-Terra 70. It's a good all around detector, without breaking the bank. Don Do you find this valuable? |
