Thank you Tom for your level head. I would have to delete 100s of hours of work. I have told newbies that when building pages if you use information from another site link to it and ask permission to use it. 999.9% of those asked want a link. It boosts their site. I feel bad about West Coast Sea Glass experience on our WIKI.
Thank you

I also am not happy with the experiene Mary Beth has had here. No one is the keeper of this site. WE as a group work this site and communicate to improve it. For an individual to simply delete or remove another members work is just not right. If it continues then there should be consequences from not only the group but the moderators as well.

A good deal of work I did was deleted including information on a non profit organition that promotes Sea Glass. Why would someone consider that a threat to their business. (Nothing commercial at all.) The history is all there so it is no secrete.

Hi Everyone,

I hope we can get this all cleared up and move forward as good caretakers of this site. When I saw that one of my pages had been moved and saw the concerns about commercial postings I cleaned up one of my own posts in response to that. I also removed another wiki users posts on the main sea glass page that were very commercial and promotional in nature. I am sorry I thought I was allowed to do that since someone was consistently removing other sea glass related posts from that page as well, because of that I thought it was an acceptable practice. Please accept my apologies on that one! I kept wondering where the West Coast Sea Glass posts were going! They have been disappearing on a regular basis. Everyone should be able to participate and contribute and it is disappointing that one wiki user has taken it upon themselves to consistently and routinely remove others posts.

I am not the most computer savy person on this wiki, but it seems to me that one of you with more computer smarts should be able to find
the person or persons who are using these sites to post advertisements. First contact them to let them know that it's not allowed. If they
persist, then block them from further use of the wiki. Sort of a firewall type of thing. And again, if I stepped on anyones toes, I'm sorry.

. From the history it would appear that bytheSea has removed their pictures and information yesterday @ 11:30. The original page is missing much of the material I posted. Billie and I do not sell sea glass (would if we had some) so the information was purely technical in nature. How does sea glass form - that kind of thing. I am getting a better picture of what has happened. With that said the more information on a page the more hits from users. There is such a thing as positive competition. That is why all the car dealers are in the same area. That is why there are several perfumes at the perfume counter. (the more the better) ladies like choices. If all the Sea Glass folks could work together and build a great page it will benefit everyone. But the person trashing Mary Beth's hard work ought to be ashamed of themselves. Also Mary Beth indicated that they stole her work and put it on their site. Shame on you. I will try to rebuild what was lost of my work. This is the first time this sort of thing has happened and I hope the last. If something occurs that violates the code of contract you can contact me or a moderator. The best is KWIN.
Lisl there is nothing wrong with the links you had. I saw them - they were not ads.

Just so we're all clear, and I'm sorry if this got taken the wrong way ..

I didn't edit or alter any information in the pages, i just moved them to the sea glass section under hunting for treasure.
I said what i said because i thought i saw both of the pages empty with just a link to another site. The sea glass page you guys were talking about was already in the sea glass section, full of neato info and wasn't what I was discussing. But I wasn't clear either so i can understand the mistake.. Next time I'll give links and be more specific ..

Sorry for the confusion, and i'm glad everyone cares so much, how cool is that!

Jake you pointed out an issue and I am glad you did. Mary Beth joined our WIKI and had her artistic property stole from her. There was a page with nothing on it but a link. I think I know who stirred this coprolite up.

To the glass folks and the rest who may not know, there is the Resources page where business links are allowed. Please feel free to post them there or in your profile and/or your hunter profile, but not in threads or informational pages. That is my opinion.

The link to the Resources page: http://cash-and-treasures-wiki.travelchannel.com/page/Lapidary%2C+Jewelry%2C+RMM%2C+Resource+and+Classified+Ads

Thanks, Paul

Paul, I respect your opinion highly. But I disagree about information pages. If you will only look at the National Directory. I created Arkansas and described the sites both commercial and non commercial and linked to all the commercial sites including the Diamond Mine. North Carolina and the gem mines, Georgia and the Holland School of Lapidary Arts, Oregon, California you name it have links to other sites. That a look at the page I created Great Museums EVER ONE has a link to the museum. Take a look a Origins of Agates I linked to agates sites. If the community wants me to delete all the information so there will be no linked pages I will gladly begin the arduous task. It will be a lot easier to hit delete than the time it took to gather all the information in one place.

Hey Bill, I just forgot about the national directory. I guess one-way to look at it is that you are not advertising your business. We are sharing links to places of interest and in many cases fee digs and the like. I look at it that you are sharing an opportunity to go mine or seek treasures some place and yes there may be a fee but there is no affiliation to any of the suggested properties. There should be no deletion of those types of links and opportunities. But if was selling “Paul’s Gems” or more realistically “Paul’s Bowls”, I feel the only places I should be allowed to have that link is in my personal profiles and in the resource page. Does that make sense?

I am so sorry if i caused any hurt feelings or anything of the sort.
I love everyone here and this community and would never do anything malicious. I reviewed the pages in my cache and they're honestly similar, but for two different communities.. from two different people even.

I would never, ever, edit someone else's page and change or remove thier content, even if i disagree with it. I think the best thing about the community here is the ability to share your ideas and knowledge.

My sincere apoligies to anyone if they felt like I jumped on them.. Please share, make, create and let's populate the world with more rockhounds!!

Bill, you rock.

Hi Everyone,

I think this has been a very valuable discussion. It has brought to light some very disturbing behaviour. The sea glass community is mostly a very positive one and that is what should be reflected here.

Thanks,

Lisl

Lisl, thank you for your kind words. I know who the bad actor was and I will take action. It was no one who has been on this thread. Managing the site is a group decision with the final say from KWIN. He is the one who has the power to ban someone. I have deleted pages after asking if there was an objection. Often I would ask the person if they were still active. Sometimes a person will create a page by mistake that's how Unique Treasures got started. Pages are for everyone that is why I like Mary Beth's BLOG. Your page (now in shambles) was a great page and I will help in any way to help rebuild it. Please build it back like it was or better. Mary Beth could give advice and I will see that it is not trashed again.

I have gotten to the bottom of the issue, A commercial site had tried to take over the Sea Glass page and was deleting Lisl, my, and Mary Beth.s posts to the page. The party was was blatantly commercial and had no other intentions than to market products. It was not simply a link for more information but for all practical purposes a commercial site where any one perceived as competition was deleted. Lisl and Mary Beth have been putting up with this for weeks. Please report problems and they will be handled. Our sincere apologies to Mary Beth and Lisl.

That is a real bummer why people have to do crap like that. It sure sounds like a reportable action to the admins of our wiki here. I too apologize for the bad actions of one person on behalf of the wiki. We have too much fun and there is so much excellent information here that this type of childish behavior is just disruptive and unacceptable. I just hope this is the end of all this deleting and destroying other peoples pages. Bill I presume you reported the perpetrator to KWIN. It would also help if Lisi and Mary Beth would do the same if they haven't already done so. Bill it is truly a blessing that you are here and watch as close as you do. Thanks Man! :-)

Hi! I've been out of pocket for a few days and am trying to catch up.

First, I just wanted to point out for those that don't know, that the complete history update is available for each page with the name of the member that has made the changes. You can also request that a page be locked (or maybe do it yourself by using the "more tools" feature at the top of the page).

Secondly, I have also found the Seaglass pages to be very interesting and a nice addition to the site. I'm sorry that Mary Beth and Lisl have had so many problems. Jake, you've clarified the moving of the page to the Treasure Hunting section, but you get a spank on the hand - just kidding.

Now then, last but not least, I have several links on my 'OPAL - More to the Story page' with information posted at the top that some links will lead offsite and also references posted at the bottom, similar to a Wikipedia page. I also have a lot of information in my profile page about places that I have purchased items or received permission from the sellers for use of photos. Do I need to make any changes to make sure that everything is equitable?

NO DO NOT TOUCH YOUR WORK
there is nothing wrong with acknowledging sources or linking sources for others to check out. WE have had the occasional problem of a few joining the wiki strictly to profit from the members. How ever we are pretty good at catching them and policing ourselves. Bill and Jake and Andy and Paul are real sharp on bogus things and so questions get asked pretty fast and results are quick to follow. Any member who adds links to their profile and or any page they create should not feel like they are wrong. If you add a link just acknowledge so and make sure the site you are linking to knows you are using their info. we have some of the best pages on the web and I don't want that to change.
