Okay, lets us start the new hunting year with some good ideas of where to go. So far, still planning on going to our t-egg claim near Harper Oregon and find some more of those biggies and new ones. I believe that the equipment will be ready to go and hopefully still taking my hoe/cat/crawler and get real serious this year. Talked with Tall Tom today. Sounds like he is coming along fine and is planning to join the crowd this year again. Love it when we can all get together underneath that big blue sky away from it all.If the weather doesn't cooperate, open for other areas instead like: Garnets in Idaho Combining a Glass and Hampton Buttes for obsidian and green petrified wood Going down and look for sunstones, Hart Mountain Jasper, precious opal, and to the hot springs Ochocos for pink limb cast, t-eggs, Maury Mt. moss agate Or any other suggestions. Really have a lot of areas we can go to have bunch of fun. I named areas that were free for digging except the Idaho garnets. Might be early for there because of snow in the elevations. According to the FS website they are planning on opening Emerald Creek 5/22/09for garnets there in Idaho. I might have roadblocks that 1 week in June personally.I am very flexable if available. Aman Do you find this valuable? |

We are open to whatever. Just try to give advance notice so we can plan the trip. Have to work around Dr. appointments, but most times are open. Tim and Sharon Do you find this valuable? |

But the hot springs trip or the Ochocos would be up top. Yet I have wanted to get to glass butte for a while too so it would be hard to choose. Just hope when the time comes I am free to join. tom Do you find this valuable? |

Tell the truth, the sunstone, hart mountain, opal, and hot springs sounding better all the time. If you are up to it Tom, you could come down here and ride along with me. So far it's just a friend and myself so far gong from here. Could take total of four in my rig, take the small trailer and atv and have plent of room for the rest.

Any of those suggestions sound good if we're not able to get into your claim. I'm always looking forward to trying new places. Still haven't made it to collect star garnets and they're only about 3hrs from here, but me personally, I like the sounds of green petwood, maury moss, pink limb casts, and of course Teggs. Looked at a map and it appears lakeview is only a few hours further down the road from these areas. It might be a little far for a 2 day weekend for us, since we can't leave til Fri afternoon and have to be back by Sun. night/Mon. morning depending on if I can work the schedule, but I'm sure we could make it work if that's what everyone else is wanting to do. How much do you think we should budget for sunstones if we do that? Fire opal, hart mt jasper and of course the hotsprings is a bonus. Also, how much climbing or hiking is involved with going to any of these places? The owehees, jaspers, graveplume and Teggs if they got them, would be cool too but I think that's might be a little far for everyone else, but of course I can't speak for them.Livy Do you find this valuable? |

Gosh darn. We have a lot of places to go. Got the truck running yesterday and everything checks out fine so far. Need to get it to the shop hopefully tomorrow and have the carb tuned next, get licensed, give it a dry run, and ready to go. All left is to weld the pinent hitch on trailer and ready for the t-eggs at Harper. The Prineville area would be a nice alternative. I know the area extremely well and have been to Paulina limb cast, Maury Mt., and their t-eggs areas bunches over the years. Might go to a new area for wood which also in the area. Fire opal, sunstones, Hart Mt. jasper--Hart Mt. is a hard climb for most--and the hot springs in the same area. The sunstones you don't have to pay if you dig in the public area and are all in the same vacinity. If you want to but some, would suggest $100-200 to be safe. Glass Buttes and the Hampton green wood are within about a hours drive of each other. Know those areas well also. The only hard climbing would be Hart Mt. and would not suggest it for most folks--steep hills, lots of hard hiking, and blisters. Beutiful scenery though. Let's look at dates. June 3rd, Wednesday, plan to head to Bend, work on cat, Thursday to t-egg claim and work on roads. Friday mine pit work and roads. Plan to stay there thru Tuesday. Looks like that Friday, Saturday, Sunday would be best to come over and you can stay until I leave if you like. For the other areas in need be, the same time schedule will work. Well, here you go. What's your flavor?

Unfortunately for me early June is out for me. Still on the infusions for two more weeks and haven't the strength to make the trip at this time. Lost almost 20 pounds and got severely dehydrated in the process. Will have to settle for reading the trip reports when you all get back.tom Do you find this valuable? |

Okay. The track hoe trailer is all ready to go. Got everything switch over and in place, and everything works!! Will be leaving here on the 3rd and staying thru Tuesday of next week. If everything goes okay with the work on the road, will be starting to dig in the pit Friday and have it open for everyone. Either way there is plenty of eggs all over the place for finding.Wish you could make it Tom and I hope everything goes okay with you. Might be heading back over later in September if that works for you. Would really like to open up the area your brother found. Might be a challenge, but I think it is dulable to make access. Maybe to gold claims would be something you guys would be up to later too. How about it Dave and Livy? Are you guys still planning to come along? Hope so. Always enjoyed having you folks around. Hopefully Sharon can make it too. The fuel prices still seem to be stable, but you know what the big companies like to do to us this time of year. Don Do you find this valuable? |

Starting to load up. I friend of mine is coming with me and I will not be bringing the dump truck unless a miracle comes our way. And yes Tom, they still happen nowadays. We just don't notice them as often for what they are. Will be bringing the hoe along though, so be ready for new big eggs to come out and ones yet we don't know about. Wish I could bring my ATV--no room this trip. Gong to have others do the exploring for new territory this time. Need to know who is going so I know who to look out for. Here is a new one for you. We don''t have cell phone coverage out there, but I came up with a better way to comunicate. A ham radio--coverage almost 100% of the country, doesn't cost near as much(about the same as a CB radio, and still portable. Still don't know how to run it, but I'm learning. Be nice to have it there though if we run into trouble. Looking forward to hearing from you all. Don Do you find this valuable? |

Timing sounds good for you. We won't really be ready for others until probably Friday afternoon anyway. Going to do some work on the access roads and open up the main pit a little before anyone shows up. Not really sure the best way for you folks to come on down. The Washington Cougar(Dave) or RockPuppy(Livy) i'm sure could help you out with that one. I believe they came through Vale then headed on hwy 20 west to Harper. From there it is pretty easy--don't asked Tom about that one!!!-- to get to the claim. As we get closer to leaving I will give better directions to the claim. Don Do you find this valuable? |

HI Don, We are kind of iffy at this time. Finaces are looking a little grim at this time, but we get paid that friday before leaving and I have a few extra hours in so I am keeping my fingers crossed. Would really like to be there to see what comes out of the Cougars Den with the track hoe!!!!!!! Will talk to Livy about it and have more of an answer by the time you leave for the claim.Dave Do you find this valuable? |

Dave Glad to hear from you. If you cannot make it this time, I will probably be going over again before the snow flys around the first of October. Can get cold, snow, and who knows what else. Last year we got chased out because of the snow. How about coming to the Prineville show the third weekend in June? We will be selling there and would give you the chance to do some rockhounding around there too. I'm still planning to open up the Cougars Den, the new/old area between my big pit and yours, and then cover most of the big pit and open a new one next to where we have been digging. Really feel positive we are going to get into new eggs not seen before. Haven't heard, how is your high speed sander working? Have you gotten over burning up too many rocks? That was my main problem until I figured it out. Don Do you find this valuable? |
