A good 'treasure hunting' episode could revolve around the Tucson show next year. I don't ever remember it getting coverage anywhere, so it might grab some fence sitters who were thinking of trying to watch the show sometime... Do you find this valuable?

Sure has been awful quiet on the "The Treasure Hunter & show" begining to wonder if we will ever see any further treasure adventures from the TC. Do you find this valuable?

Sorry to share bad news, Andy, but TC has not renewed Treasure Hunter for a 4th season. The production company had picked a dozen locales for future shoots, but TC has pulled the plug on funding.

RE: Tucson, they sent a producer to the AMT Tucson display in 2008. She did a lot of research (that was when we booked the Spruce shoot), but they did not think the Tucson show itself would fit their programing.

Well I hadn't seen, read, or heard that Bob. Geeez that is a bummer but alas without any sex or killing in the show, the TC was bucking the odds in the begining.

There's no reason for me to watch the TC now. Guess I'll have to find something else to watch. That, or spend the time cutting cabs.

WE AGREE WITH ANDY ON THE SEX AND KILLING PART. IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE MAIN STREAM THINGS YOU WON'T MAKE IT IN THE EYES OF THE " IMPORTANT" PEOPLE! WE ARE JUST A FEW IN A WORLD OF MANY. IN THE LONG RUN I GUESS IT MIGHT A BE GOOD BAD THING FOR US AS THERE WON'T BE MORE ROCK HUNTERS OUT THERE. JUST MEANS MORE TIME FOR ROCK'IN AND CABBING.

That is a very important item for me and a few others of us who have spent countless hours and days making content.
I do not wish to see all our collective hard work get deleted in an unannounced way.. At the same time someone is paying for this server and it obviously cant last forever without a show .. or can it?

Bill and Paul, what say you?

I just sent an Email to Kirsten, to find out if there is anything we can do to convince the TC to keep her on the air. Maybe if we got as many people as possible to contact her, and the TC, it might do some good. At least it can't hurt to try.

Won't help, Don, done deal. A bunch of us sent demographic info to TC in April, to convince them there is a big market for the show. Their opinion was that treasure hunting had "run its course". Kirsten has moved on to other projects.

I'd use a few choice words for the TC guys, But some of the ladies might read this. There has to be some way to preserve the wiki. It would be a shame to loose all of the great conversations and information on here.

Well heck, it would be a great loss and a dis-service to our hobbies to loose a resource that has been developed here. I think that as long as they keep running the reruns the site should be safe. We did pose this very question some time ago about the possibility that is the she wasn't going to be continued if they planned on taking this site down. I was told the TC had no plans to cut the site. I hope they hold true that statement. This site is rated in the top 100 amongst the million or so sites on Wetpaint. Hopefully that will play into any decisions to take this site down. I don't know if there are really any costs for this wiki site and if so, not sure how much it is.

If they do take it down, I hope they recognize the amount of work that went into this site and would allow us to migrate the information to another site managed by us as users of the site. Lets just hope they see some value in this wiki and will keep it going.

If it does get abandoned, there are a few regional sites that can help fill some of the void. I spend most of my rockhounding time at the Mountain Area Gem And Mineral (MAGMA) board, Dirty Rockhounds http://dirtyrockhounds.proboards.com/index.cgi. I am sure some others have their favorites?

I would like those of us here who contribute the most to have a discussion offline about what we think the best course should be. Awhile ago i made a backup of the more shared content, primarly the national directory. At that time i just made a new wiki. since then i have removed it and all the content for fear of being labeled a content thief. We should have some contingincy in place well before we can't get to the site one day and its too late.
I'll continue this offline ..

I think we need to see what the TC thinks about the future of the wiki. I know Bill is working a lot lately and may be difficult to get a hold of. Maybe not.. I would be willing to discuss offline. If the TC is going to drop it, it sure would be nice if they could roll it over to us. There is a lot of people who have put tons of time and info on this site that should be included if they are willing to do so.

The last time they were debating on whether or not to renew the show Bill and I made several contacts with the TC people. We were told the wiki will not be shut down. They said it was going to be kept up and that as long as people didn't abuse it it would be left running. They realize the great PR and advertising that this wiki gives them. How ever it may not be a bad idea to make copies of all the info here and store it so if needed a new site could be opened and all this great stuff put on it and we could keep going.

Hey Tom, great to see you back on line. I agree that someone who has the right computer knowledge should copy all of the info on the wiki. If we should have to start our own site, we'd be miles ahead of the game. Anyone out there that knows how to do it? I'm a computer dummy, so would be little if any help.
