Treasure Can Come In Many Differant Forms

Upon my arrival here a few months ago. I noticed a theme here.. and It didn't seem to include other forms of treasures.. We all value different types of treasures and most are radially available to us. Take for instance Saturday morning.. I met this couple throwing away some trash. I also noticed some things simply sticking out the bags.. and asked If I could take a look.. They agreed and went off, leaving me the 6 bags of what they called "trash".
I noticed some old toys. stuffed animals and other odds and ends.. But one thing struck my eye.. In a clear package was four coins about the size of a half dollar but bigger and made of bronze.. First I thought "Olympic Medals". Turns out they are called "Challenge Coins" give to a solder that must had been in their family. Taking the coins inside I did some research.. The coins can be valued at or between $7.00 - $15.00 each depending on the subject matter.
I couldn't let this pass.. I had to tell the family who threw out the trash.. I caught up with them the next day.. and handed the coins back to them.. "Did you know these where in the trash?" I asked.. They had no idea and simply said it was all trash to them.. after I told them of the coins value.. they started taking a second look at what they were throwing away.
I asked them if they had more items they needed to simply throw away, let me know.. and I'll check over the items and even separate them into piles according to their values if any. With in moments they had set out 4 large boxes.. most contained toys and dolls.. Some of the doll where still in their original boxes and never been opened. after about 30 ins I had the lot separated and organized and asked that they return for the results. One area I knew they could get money right away was some old sports equipment. Gloves, softballs, even some new climbing equipment.. all have value and they were just going to throw this stuff away..

Dumpster diving can be very productive. Sounds like the people just didn't know what they had. Then you have those people who think that their treasures are worth a lot and there really isn't any value in them. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

I ahve found countless treasures dumpster diving. I ahve found a half a dozen jewejery box's still full of jewelery and I mean full. We ahve alot of apartments around here and people are always skipping out on the landlords. the landlords just throw everything out and I have gotten tv's and all sorts of stuff by checking out their dumpsters.

Tom.. seems you and I have the same neighbors.. I walk the neighborhood on occasion and search the large dumpsters.. and true I find many things that the landlords can't touch.. nor can the landlord's workers.. But at night I see the workers return and take things.. I recall in 2003, I noticed a white van pull up to our dumpster and place 30 white printer paper boxes in.. and drive away. I walked down to take a look.. Old sports memorabilia.. baseball cards.. 15,000 post cards (unused and from the 1900's) Nothing of value to me.. but the post cards, collectors would pay between 25 cents and 50 cents a card.. I just grouped it all up and took it to auction..made about $ 5000 that year..

Pack Rats I guess..

Updated some more images at my One Mans Trash site..

Today's feature find is a children's nap sack.. Though I would hardly call it that. With all of its detail, hand stitching, and bead work.. I would never just let a child carry their book in it..
