Looking for a rock hunting partner
Jul 15 2009, 1:11 PM EDT
I am a 48 year old female, not looking for a relationship, but looking for a rock hunting partner. I like to go hunting anywhere and all conditions, but don't like to go into the middle of nowhere alone. Have the rest of the summer off because I am a high school teacher and would like to get in a couple more rock hounding adventures. Live in the Lake Arrowhead, San Bernardino County area. Would like a trip to Utah?? or???

It's a pitty that I don't still live in So. Cal. I moved from Riverside to South Dakota about 16 years ago. I could have shown you all of the best rockhounding places in So. Cal. Good luck finding a hounding partner. I'm sure someone on here would like to link up for a trip to Utah.Don Do you find this valuable? |

What kind of rocks do you look for when you go on your adventures? We have some people here in Rapid City, S.D. that take people out to the Agate Beds for Fairburns. dbsagates.com

I also am looking for a rock hunting partner. I have been planning a trip to Dugway, Utah over the last couple of days. I am from Michigan and am following the feeling in my gut to find crystals and gems. I am particularly facinated with the geodes that can be found in Dugway.. I am also learning there are some other great places near by too. I am planning this trip alone, and am slightly worried about trekking alone out there. If you are interested in meeting up for a day or two to check things out, that would be fantastic. I was very happy to stubble on your post. I was thinking about leaving in about a week or less. I will be stopping in Put in Bay, Ohio to look at the Crystal Cave. Hope this works out! Peace and love, Julie Sunnie Jai Do you find this valuable? |

Here is an issue I personally have with a thread like this.. A new person becomes interested in the rock hounding or tumbling hobby. and have no where to turn. yet for first time posters here.. they ask for rock hounding partners.. on the first post.. this is where I have the issue.. it would seem first timers should post other topics and questions before asking right out they need a RH partner.. In this day and age.. I'm a little leery about who I speak with and many here are aware of my defenses.. but having a first time user post a statement like this.. with out knowing that person or without that person filling out some if not all of their profile. Persons must take caution when attempting to meet someone in person.. I would recommend that they locate groups or clubs in their area for this partnership. True in my case my profile tends to change often depending on my moods.. But one thing that doesn't change. Is my image and my name.. Yet there have been person attempting or posing to be me.. Just a heads up on posters like this and anyone else wanting a partner or partners to go exploring. Do you find this valuable? |

Hopefully those of us on here that they are asking are upright. Of course there is always concerns when you have a unknown. Who knows they could be "black widows" them selves. ha I have to admit I have seen some pretty weird looking characters out there rockhounding but who am I to judge. But if they didn't ask how would any one know that they need a partner. Thats why I carry a "judge" too! DB

Welcome aboard Julie. The Crystal Caves are a neat thing to see. If you happen to travel through South Dakota on your way out west, Be sure to take a tour of the Wind Caves in S.W. South Dakota. And if you have an extra day or two, try looking for some of our famous Fairburn Agates. We have several members living in that area. I'm sure that one of them would be happy to show you some of the good places to hunt in. As for the weird characters that DB mentioned, He must have taken a mirror with him into the field. Have a good and safe trip. We'll expect a trip report and pics when you get home.Don Do you find this valuable? |

At my age? do I have to remind you again that I'm only 3 years older than you? Ya old goat. Don't mind us Julie. We're always giving each other a bad time. I'd be happy to show you around, as would DB or Bob or a couple other guys.Unfortunately, we don't have any S.D. lady members yet, but at the rate this wiki is growing, I'm sure we'll get some soon. Coming from DB, that's a real compliment. Hey DB, you're not so bad either. Julie, I'd be glad to take you around the grasslands hunting Fairburns, but I live about 6 hours north east of there. Those west river guys can be in the heart of the hunting areas within half an hour. Lucky dogs. Don Do you find this valuable? |
