No he is the President of the Huntsville Gem and Mineral Society. Google the society and contact information will be there. Dewey Moss has the Rock Shop but he is up in age and can not hike the mountains, But he knows a world about Paint Rock and has a good amount of rough.

The agate is scarce at least the good agate. There is junk agate all over the Paint Rock Valley. There is tons of clear chalcedony - literally tons. Some of it is red on the out side but clear on the inside. It is worthless except for a conversation piece. The valuable agate is found in small sites from a hundred feet in diameter to about 300 yards in diameter. Many of the famous sites have been dug out but there are many sites left to be found. I wrote an article about Rattle Snake Hollow for Lapidary Journal. If you hike up the moumtains take someone with you. You might have noticed a bench about 2/3 to 3/4 the way up the plateau. It is on the bench that the agate can be found. The best bet if you do not know where the sites are is to walk the creeks. From Stevenson take Hwy 117 N to Hwy 56. Just before you get to the Old Confederate RR tunnel that cuts through the Cumberland at Cowan Tennessee there is a creek. There is lots of agate in the stream but you will have to high grade, It is about two miles from Buggy Top Cave at the bottom of the mountain.
