Morning Plfttrse. OOOooooooo do I ever need that 2nd. cup of coffee this morning !!! The coyotes aren't happy about the high water in the creek, so one decided to sing right outside the bedroom window around 3:00 this morning. That set my dog off, so I didn't get much sleep.

Man I hope you had a 3r d cup! lol Plfttrse?? Whoa man. ;-)

Yeah we have a couple of coyotes that live in a large blackberry patch (what you say out in the middle of a desert? yup!) in our backyard. We can't let the critters (ducks, goose, chickens and dogs out without being around in fear of them 'yote's gettin them. I just can't be in the right place at the right time to shoot them. Yeah I can understand the dog going off on them. You ought to have 4 dogs that get to going. lol Hope the creek goes down for ya and they can get back to were they belong.

I am not quite a fossil yet this morning the be more I do the more fossilization occurs. Wait until this afternoon. argh!

Paful geez, it is almost right... ;-)

I used to shoot those critters, but there's gettin to be too many houses around here. Who'd a thunk there'd be a housing development in the middle of the prairie ? Man, it's gettin time to move again.

It is funny for all the years I lived out here in the sticks there wasn't any 'yote problem, now that there are more houses and development there is a problem. I think it has to do with the family pets which become 'yote fodder. There is still some open land to the north of us where I feel comfortable shooting. Heck it was last week when one of the neighbors was out shooting at something around 11:00 p.m. They didn't get one though unless there were 3 running around. Nasty little buggers!

Yeah I hear ya about moving. It is getting a bit crowded for my likings.

Hey Paul, ( you are Paul again, aren't you ) ? I can still shoot to the south towards town. It's about 3 miles to the nearest house in that direction. I won't hit anything unless i bring out the old WW2 Russian cannon and rip off a few rounds. Not sure how far that beast will carry.

We are having a razorback problem. Big time. The hogs are doing extensive damage to the forest. There is no hunting season, they can be killed at any time. Domestic hogs are breeding with wild hogs creating huge boars that are very dangerous. A friend of mine was attached while working the dogs toward my deer stand. He only had a shot gun with buck shot. Not enough fire power to bring down a angry boar. The boar put him up a tree after he had put two rounds into the killer. The first round just flatten out on the hog's skull. The second round embedded in the fighting pads on his shoulder. He fell out of the tree and finally took him down with a round behind his ear. He has a shredded boot to show for it. The tusks caught his boot as he was climbing the tree. The boar weighed over 600 pounds. WE have elk, bear, yotes, rattlers but by far the most dangerous animal in the woods is a razorback. Bar none. I heard the site was attacked by an enraged Pul. Is he still around. Paul I thought you had run him off? Do you find this valuable?

Ya, but those razorbacks make for some fine barbecue, don't they. Wonder how they'd go with groundhog and buzztail ?

Man it must have been late and I slipped up. I am still a fossil, I just forgot I was. lol What are you doing with a WW2 Russian Cannon? We live closer to town that 3 miles, but just have always been in the outskirts of town. I just don't like the influx of all these people. :-(

No Pul is tied up in a closet right now. A good place for that rotten trouble maker.

Wild hogs are one thing we don't have around here - well other then domesticated that is - that I know of. Man that is a heck of a time your friend had with that boar. He is quite lucky to be alive or not torn up too bad. I just saw a show several days ago about the hog problems in the SE. Sounds like they would be fun to hunt and are good eating, but it does sound like they can be nasty. Maybe someday I'll get to hunt a hog.

Hey Paul, do you west coast folks always sleep in this late ? That Russian cannon is a 7.62 X 54 long range rifle. Kicks like a mule, so I had to add a recoil pad to it, to save my shoulder. My father in law has an old 30 / 40 Krag, and my shell casings are bigger than his.
What about that Bill ? Razor back hog, and a Cajun wife. Man, that makes for good eatins'. Bet it's better than ground hog with tic stuffin.

Oh no I have ben up for hours, just doing other things. So it is just a little ol' shooting gun. I too have a 30/40 Krag that my grandfather had. Neat old shooter.

Yeah I'll bet Bill has some mighty good suppers! Lunches and breakfasts too. lol g-hog and tick stuffing is hard to beat, but I'll bet the wild boar would do it.

I hate to tell you guys. The big boars are meaner than **** but totally uneatable. They stink and the meat has the smell and flavor of that stink. They have scent glands that marks their harem. The ones that are good to eat are the piglets up to 50 to 75 pounds. Great taste. After that the heads are good for trophies and that is it. The law says on the big razorbacks you do not have to haul them out of the woods. They run in packs and will attack humans because they are not afraid. Billie is from the swamps of Louisiana and her neighbor had a big boar run into their yard and bite the face off their five year old girl. The reputation of a razorback is no fairy tale. The one advantage a hunter has over a mean razorback is that they have poor eye sight. If you are still and quite they can not see you easily. My friend got attack because he had a small beagle with him that would not keep quite. Where Billie is from they have dogs (Catahoula Curs) that are trained to corner a wild hog.

Billie told me to tell you the little girl lived and had several surgeries to rebuild her face. Sorry about the last part of the post. It is rather disturbing story. Billie said that she carried a gun when she walked out of the house when the waters were up. The high water forced all kinds of critters to high ground including wild hogs. By the way a pig roast in Cajun country is called a Cochon de Lait . A Cochon de Lait is basically a cajun pig roast of a whole young pig. The pig is slow roasted for 6 to 12 hours. That is what makes a Cochon de Lait an event rather than just cooking a meal. It's an extended "male bonding", "story telling", "bull shooting", "beverage of your choice drinking", "fire tending" event !
