Seems to me that they used explosives when they were looking for turquoise and again in Washington hunting Crystals at Bob Jackson's claim if I'm not mistaken.

We use explosives to fracture the extremely hard granite which encloses the crystal bearing vugs. There is no 'searching through the rubble for gems" ... that would destroy the specimens! The specimens are collected with hand tools: hammers, chisels, bars. Kirsten took about half an hour of chiseling to produce her good piece ... tho it looks like about 20 seconds in the show! Wish it were that easy...

Noticed your post to another thread, regarding explosives, Cyan. My company is GeologyAdventures.com, and we most definitely do not allow explosives use by anyone but the miners. The TV shows featured scenes of real mining at both our Spruce and Rock Candy properties, so Kirsten got to be a miner-for-a-day.

Hey Bob, what kind of waiver did you make her sign? Maybe you should start a thread about the use of explosives, and set these thrill seekers straight about who can or can not legally use explosives.

I'd like to go rocking with Bob and have him bring his explosives and a helicopter along. Maybe up to Vesper Peak;)

Funny thing was, they had me sign a waiver! I'll pass on the explosives thread ... ATF does a good job of that!

Awesome and that is just a few miles from the claim as well:) I think a snowmobile in the winter is sufficient though. One walk, my goodness I'm still reeling from just how wrong that was in every way. LOL, Zeke and I were talking about a helicopter way before we ever made it up to Headlee pass, and saying never again. LOL, I just wanted to dump my gear and walk. What in the hell were we thinking? I have no idea. My tent was a deathtrap. It literally was covered in condensed water 2 minutes after I pulled it out onto the rock. Zeke saved my butt more times then I can count. helped carry up the red pack even. I got into my tent and immediately my sleeping bag was getting soaked. Zeke was cool enough to get me a garbage bag to put my sleeping bag end into to keep my feet dry, and my poncho to wrap around the top. I would be dead if it werent for the garbage bag and poncho, then waking up to a wet tent, and getting out only to have everything freeze like 10 minutes later. His canned heat cooked our meals, no fires up there. It was indescribable beauty. I sweated through every shirt except the one I slept in by the time we made it to Vesper Lake with my 60+ pounds of gear. My daughter patted me on the leg last night and I screamed it was like somebody took a meat tenderizer to my legs until they were black and blue. You get the point. Yes, I can understand the use of a helicopter now more clearly then ever. We actually joked about you and said Bob could of flown a helicopter up there filled up with garnets, and even blown out some new material, and then been out before dark with the goods only for us to find an empty crater, LOL. So yeah a helicopter all the way:)

Thanks,

Aaron
