Washington Jade Rendezvous
Nov 4 2009, 1:23 AM EST
Yeah, that's right....Jade.I thought I'd start a jade rendezvous for Washington...just a show and tell event for serious WA jade hunters to show everyone else what they have and trade stories. Maybe hold one this spring (late). Suggestions, sites and dates appreciated. It could just start out as a wiki rendezvous but I'll personally email the WA folks not on the wiki to join as well...and whereever else I can put out the word. I know Aaron knows some folks and I bet Redrummd would like to come as well...maybe he could host in fact!? He has a property that folks can camp on and a shop on the primises....I'll email him. All thoughts welcome. ~Zeke Do you find this valuable?

"Yeah, that's right....Jade.Great plan Zeke, if you can get all us Jade hunters together I will be amazed:) LOL, I think the secret behind most Jade hunters is they don't like to share their haunts, they want it all to themselves. Tehe. Do you find this valuable? |

That is why i was thinking of RSVP only...and invitation only....I finally figured out that is why it is so hard to get information on WA jade...I've been sinning by talking about it...but i have learned my lesson...that is lucas, adna. et al. just those that know already and will figure it all out anyway...;-) maybe a public commercial festival in a few years...just to sell our art.

Jade.....What's Jade???? ;-oYou know it is sad that some folks don't feel that is it right to share areas of interest. (Not you Zeke) but the ones that say stuff and make threats to people sharing behind the scenes that we have seen in the past. (Heck maybe someone said something or threatened you.) Sharing information is what made this place so much fun and informative. Now we are taking collection sites off the wiki. I guess the TC had it right, showing the public (pay) digs and sites and very few private claims or areas. But aired places where everyone could go without showing any ones secrets. This is getting to be about as bad as bass fishermen. Paul Do you find this valuable? |

I think It has always been that way with the jade, there are enough known localities for everyone, all you have to do to find the rest is do a little research. I still want to share localities, just not "honey holes" I work really hard to find, or areas that could be abused (for example lode jade sites or creeks already being repaired from damage). if you look on the jade page you will see how many sites in Washington are already publically known. i still plan to post my finds for each locality...I never said I'd repent completely ...i just don't see the need to over expose areas just because i found some jade there...it's everywhere really...just ask Aaron about the road jade I found last weekend...the whole landscape is littered with the green stuff......I just want to see other folks jade....and if that means a private-ish Rendezvous, so be it. I just want to get them out of thier bunkers for once. The Californian Divers worry about losing access to thier coves by abusive treasure seekers, but that doesn't mean they don't share...in fact i wish WA jade hunters were as friendly and sharing as they are. it is often, as Rod put it once, a matter of "show don't tell". So the only thing I'm avoiding now is posting specific access points if i feel they may be abused...Really folks need only hit the creek/river where ever they can reach it. Most other access is tricky and all it would take is one person to close it down...why advertise it? I'm sure that's the theory all the WA jade hunters are really going on. ~Zeke Do you find this valuable? |

I guess I am one of those guys that if someone shows me a place, I don't go unless I am with them.. I don't go and take a bunch of others with me. Very specific spots are on thing, but general areas are another. I mean how long is Lucas creek? There wasn't really any specific spots noted I don't think. But I'll be there is agate on just about every mile of that creek. Anyway that is the way it is. I think your rendezvous is a great idea. All you jade types should get together. Are you carving any jade now or what are you doing with all of your jade? Paul Do you find this valuable? |

I don't have the equipment yet, but i did manage to get funding for a complete shop sometime after we buy a house and move...late spring or summer next year. my brother-in-law is going to do some carving as well. He is an artist and has resently been tattooing professionally...he's interested in carving dragon heads out of cobbles. I'm thinking of focusing on small abstract "freeforms", suiseki, and just polishing whole cobbles, something i might start messing around with this winter. i do have a great idea on something I could make and market, but that's a secret. i thought i'd also try my hand at carving pieces that already suggest a face or head or something.~zeke Do you find this valuable? |

The good thing about looking in rivers and streams is after every big flood the stones are all moved and even the slime washed off. I do all of my jade hunting in the dealers yards now. Heck for the price of a tank of gas and a custom knife or two and I can get some really good jade. I have a lot of "decent" jade now so I have become very selective about what I will buy or trade for. I am in the middle of a deal to get a jade dealers small (35 pounds) personal collection of Edwards black jade from Wyoming and I mean the real stuff collected 1958 to 1966. If it wasn't so darn hard to post a photo on this site I would post one of the small pencil thick test piece I got. It takes an easy mirror black polish and even cut and polished to a point, it is black, black, black. It is incredibly tough too. I am in really great shape and I cannot break this 4 inch long pencil thick test piece with my hands. and I am sure I put at least 50 pounds of shear pressure on it. I no longer own the 1.5 acre camping area as i gave it to my daughter to build a home on and by spring the new home should be well under way. The septic system is already in but getting permits is a very slow process now as eveyone in the department is dragging their feet to look busy in the county offices. They are talking about layoffs due to the drop in work and the waits are longer than ever despite the fact there is little activity. Really irritating... Do you find this valuable? |
