"What kind of Crystals and how hard it is to mine if you will. "
Most are Quartz Crystals XLS, Amethyst, Tppaz, and some smokey quartz. You need to take all your own equipment(Shovel, and a screen for sifting). Very easy to mine. Free admission. Has restrooms and water. Camping close by. No Guides or Park Staff at site. Your own your own. There is a educational information at site. Senic area (Beatuiful!). Best time to go is in the dry season, (July,Aug.) easier to sift throug dirt. This area is next to Maverik Mountain Ski Resort.

Treasure coast in Florida. Always a chance for great finds but additionally, jewelry and coins. Saw a nice 8 reale found while I was there. This was close to Vero Beach. Enjoy the treasure museum in Sebastion. 0  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

All depends on the state.
Washington- Saddle Mountain for peterified wood
Oregon- Harper for thunder eggs
Montana- Gem Mountain for sapphires
Still looking for a spot in Idaho But have stopped in the Selway for picture rock and Potlach area for gold.
But always still looking for any place new to try and have a great time at.

Best place - that is an almost impossible question. There are so many great places that Billie and I have been. It all depends one what a person wants to collect. With rockhounding it does not make a lot of sense to go to the same spot over and over. Keep mining the same material and you wind up with thousands of pounds of the same old same old. I have done that and had to sell or haul off thousands of pounds of Paint Rock Agate after I high graded the stock. That's what is so fun about hounding, there is always a new place (a new adventure) waiting at the turn of the road. The very best fun is a new find. I am a prospector at heart. The most valuable specimens I own were found at a previously unknown sites.

Billie and I went on a trip a couple of weeks ago to Flint Ridge Ohio. We went to one well known fee site but the best material we found was on a power line right of way. I could tell the flint has not been dug by anyone in recent time. That was more fun than shelling out $5 to root through a pile of picked over flint. There are a lot better places in North Carolina than the tourist mines where you pay so much to wash a salted bucket with sapphire from Sri Lanka or Thailand.

It is near impossible to choose a best place. The best could be the next, but one can say, as Tom did so well, they are all good.

Andy, I agree with you as well, this time of year is sales. Just went to a ood one several weeks ago and as usual spent to much money I don't have. lol How often do you find a sale that advertises or had lapidary/rock related stuff? Up here is isn't very often. Probably a good thing though. lol

Tom, if I ever decide to get married, I'll hire you for the ceremony! lol

Very rarely, around here do we hear of an estate sale with lapidary, although t26 yrars ago is where I bought my double tumbler - it looks 100 years old and homemade. But hey, it works.

If money were no object I would travel all over this wonderful country and collect to hearts content. Dang it though, I have to work for my money.

I get giddy just planning a trip!

Pam Tom would probably do it just as long there aren't 3 others scheduled at the same time. lol

We rarely see a good sale with lapidary equipment. Maybe once in a year of we are lucky. Then you got to get here fast, the other rock hounds in the area are always first in line.

I wish money was no object too. I would have been back East collecting gems a long time ago. So CA, well heck just about every state has some good offerings. Would be fun just to be able to travel more.

I like that word giddy. lol Paul
