You could spend hours polishing or minutes waxing. If all it is is a simple stand or garden rock there is no reason to over work the rock...and if you want it to look how you found it but with a polished look, waxing is perfect. A lot of worked stone (not gemstones) is given some form of wax finishing. I do believe weather resistance is one of the reasons. Repairs are another. serpentinite is almost always waxed. ~zeke
